The most efficient routes to mastery. Whether you want maximum XP/hr or a chill AFK method, we have charted the perfect course for you.
Sailing is a utility skill that rewards preparation. Unlike clicking a rock every 3 ticks, Sailing XP comes from completing Voyages, engaging in Naval Combat, and Charting new areas.
The "meta" for 2025 involves a hybrid approach:
| Level Range | Method | XP/Hour |
|---|---|---|
| 1–20 | Port Sarim Courier | 8k – 12k |
| 20–40 | Coastal Netting | 15k – 22k |
| 40–60 | Fossil Island Charting | 35k – 45k |
| 60–75 | Shipwreck Salvage | 55k – 70k |
| 75–99 | Deep Sea Combat (Meta) | 110k – 140k |
Head to the Sailing Tutor in Port Sarim. He will assign you simple delivery tasks to Entrana and Musa Point. These tasks are instanced (safe), meaning no other players can crash you.
Don't buy ship upgrades yet. The starter "Sloop" is fast enough for these short distances. Save your gold for Level 20.
At Level 20, you can equip the Oak Hull. Head to Catherby. The "Coastal Netting" activity involves dragging a heavy net behind your ship. It simulates drag physics, teaching you how to manage speed under load.
Unlock Fossil Island. The surrounding seas are filled with "Uncharted Islets". Sailing near them marks them on your map for a large XP drop. This is the first "efficient" method used by speedrunners.
Route: Do a loop around the island, banking at the North Camp.
At Level 50, you can interact with Shipwrecks. This requires the Diving apparatus. You dive down, loot chests, and surface. It is slower XP (~45k/hr) but very profitable (~500k GP/hr).
130k+
XP per Hour
This involves hunting Abyssal Sirens and Ghost Captains in the Wilderness or Deep Sea zones. You will need a Teak or Mahogany Hull and a Dwarf Multi-Cannon mounted on deck.
Combat XP is awarded based on damage dealt. Since cannons hit multiple targets, you can "chin" ships essentially. Group up 3-4 Ghost Ships, circle them (to mitigate damage), and unload broadsides.
