OSRS Sailing Map & Routes Guide (2025)
The ocean of Gielinor is vast, procedurally generated in parts, and filled with both treasure and terror. Knowing your way around the map is the key to efficient Sailing XP.
Unlike walking, travel time in Sailing varies based on wind direction, ship weight, and ocean currents. This guide breaks down the major sea zones, the most profitable trade routes, and the safest paths for low-level captains.
Major Sea Zones
Port Sarim & Karamja
The starting zone. Calm waters, no aggressive sea monsters. Perfect for learning the basics of navigation and trimming sails.
Fossil Island Seas
Mid-level adventure zone. Stronger currents require better sails. Home to the Wyvern caves and underwater agility courses.
Varlamore Coast
The newest region added in 2025. Offers unique Hunter/Sailing hybrid training methods. Watch out for the rocky coastline.
Wilderness Ocean
The most dangerous waters in Gielinor. Open PvP enabled. High risk, but double resource yields and unique boss drops.
Optimized Sailing Routes
Whether you are chasing XP or GP, these are the community-verified best routes for 2025.
The Rum Runner
"Bring 10,000 GP for port fees. Avoid the Mort Myre swamp gas clouds."
Fremennik Circle
"Requires Fremennik Trials. Great for mid-level charting XP."
Abyssal Dash
"Requires 85 Sailing. High APM route involving obstacle dodging."
Weather & Environment
Wind Mechanics
Wind direction changes every 30 minutes. Sailing with the wind gives a 20% speed boost. Sailing against it reduces speed by 50%. Always check the wind vane in your HUD.
Storms
Random events that can damage your ship. In high-level zones, storms can spawn Lightning Sprites which must be clicked to avoid massive hull damage.
